So Long © Brian Lutes/Steve Milley
Delivered from the wrath of your despair.
Let me go if you really care.
Please check for reality before there’s a casualty.
You’ve got me on my knees, set me free.
No more punching bag, rotten names,
Taking blame for your mistakes.
No more next time for me.
Something so wrong can’t turn right.
Please don’t put up a fight.
Played the part, Babe, opened my heart.
My bruises tell me it’s time to leave.
Your preoccupation with desperation
Has become a fatal disease.
Can’t wait until tomorrow.
No more life to borrow.
I’ve had enough. I’ve heard the talk.
Now I’m gonna walk.
The Lord, he’s blessed my soul. He’s made my heart whole.
Rescued from adversity, I’ve tasted sweet liberty.

Love Will Keep Us Together © Neil Sedaka
Love … love will keep us together.
Think of me babe, whenever
Some sweet talking girl comes along,
Singin’ a song.
Don’t mess around, you’ve just gotta be strong.
Just stop, ‘cause I really love you.
Stop, I’ve been thinkin’ of you.
Look in my heart and let love keep us together … whatever.
You … you belong to me now.
Ain’t gonna set you free now.
When those girls start hangin’ around,
Talkin’ me down.
Hear with your heart, you just won’t hear a sound.
Young and beautiful,
Some day your looks will be gone.
When the others turn you off,
Who’ll be turnin’ you on?
I will, I will, I will.
I will ... be there to share forever.
Love will keep us together.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again,
My love ain’t pretend.
I need you now and I need you then.

The Things That You Do © Brian Lutes/Steve Milley
I was a happy little girl,
Lived on the bright side of the world.
Loved to sing and dance, dreams of romance.
Life used to be a trip
Until it turned to shit.
You taught me how to love, how to cry,
Not to ask the reasons why
You do what you do. Oh …
(The things that you do to me.)
Mindless little girl.
No spine to call my own.
The girl I used to be
When you came to me
Joined your little game
And life ain’t been the same.
You showed me how to love, how to cry,
Not to ask the reasons why
You do what you do. Oh …
(The things that you do.)
How to love. How to die.
Not to know the reasons why
You did what you did
When you did what you did to me.
(Interlude) Why didn’t somebody stop me?
You gave me love without a glove.
How many others joined your club?
You stole my life in a single night.
The things that you did to me.

Sentimental Fool © Brian Lutes/Steve Milley
Sentimental fool,
Thinking dreams can come true.
Heart on your sleeve for all to see,
Trusting all who ask you to.
Where do the clouds go?
What’s at the end of your rainbow?
Sampling philosophies,
Trying on your friends’ beliefs.
Voices in the wind call out your name.
Stumbling in the darkness, you can’t find the door.
Memories and scary beasts come to haunt you in your sleep.
It’s frightening.
Hold on tight now, you’re not here all alone.
So just close your eyes and listen with your heart.
Don’t let this search for truth and love
Keep on tearing you apart.
Hear the voice inside you try to understand.
Put your faith in miracles,
See the footprints in the sand.
You’ll never find the answer chasing dreams.
It’s in the whisper of the wind. Hear it blow.
So just close your eyes and listen with your heart.
Don’t let this search for truth and love
Keep on tearing you apart.
See the footprints in the sand.

Mandy © Brian Lutes/Steve Milley
Good for Mom, she found a brand new man.
Mandy stood quiet, she's kind of shy.
Mom looks so happy.
Mandy's new Daddy taught her how to hide,
Taught her how to cry, she lived a lie.
Mandy's not dead, she learned to wear her scars -
Crawled out from the grave to touch the hand of God.
Learning to love, to cut away the hate.
She had something that he just couldn't take ...
Her will to live.
Momma said, "Give him a try,
I'm sure he'll make an excellent father -
Daughter you know, I'm not getting any younger."
Mandy's new Daddy wanted her to love him,
Her to touch him, he liked to hear her cry.
Strapped upon a bed, much too tired to cry.
Doctor says baby's gone, and girl, you're too young to die.
Momma says she's full of lies and far too sleazy.
Brother says, "Try harder girl 'cause suicide's easy."

For Now © Brian Lutes/Steve Milley
In a moment, the night will come,
Another day has passed.
With another moment, more time has come,
More opportunities last.
Every beat of my heart means I’m growing old,
So much wasted time wondering where it goes.
But for now, I keep moving on.
Right now, I press on.
Every passing day brings a brand new start.
I’ve got my sights on the brightest star.
I cast my worries on the one who writes the songs… writes the songs.
You win, you lose some in the game of life,
You’ve got to know where you stand.
We’re all just players in life’s production,
We’re all part of its cast.
So much in life, I just don’t understand…
But for now, I keep moving on.
Right now, I press on.
Some people live their whole life walking the high wire,
Struggling in vain.
Never to feel the warmth of the fire,
For fear of being burned by the flame.
In another moment the night will come, another day has passed.
When I’m gone the world will go on with a brand new cast.
Every beat of our hearts means we’re growing old,
So much wasted time wondering where it goes.
But for now, I keep moving on…
But for now, I keep moving on…
But for now… I keep moving on.
So much wasted time wondering where it goes.
But for now, I keep moving on.
But for now, I keep moving on…
But for now… I keep moving on.

Dreamer's Pie © Brian Lutes/Steve Milley
In the distance I saw him coming,
Angel or devil, started to run.
Heels clicking, calling out "Son of man,"
"I've been waiting for you." He said,
"I was the fire raping the night as your star fell from the sky."
"I'm the rain cloud over the desert, that never rains,"
"Wonder why ... you wonder why."
"You look thirsty, let me wet your lips."
"You whet my desire, let me quench your fire."
Don't you see, I offer liberty,
Fortune , fame and vanity.
I've bottled God's country and so much more.
Together we can punch a hole in the sky,
With one slice of my dreamer's pie.
Sing for joy, son, don't be shy.
Did a little jig and slapped his thigh.
A toothless grin and winked his eye.
You could say I'm the lucky kind.
Fortune's been a friend of mine.
Quickly, boy, time's slipping away.
I'm offering you just one more time.
You show a lot of promise for such a tender youth.
I'm getting impatient and sort of confused.
I've got drugs and the finest booze.
Mountains move with a twinkle of his eye.
But take a slice of his dreamer's pie.
Hey, don't believe the lie.
Remember you hate dreamer's pie.
Don't you see I offer liberty,
God's country and so much more.
Fortune , fame, who needs love with vanity?
Have a slice of my dreamer's pie.

Tell Me World © Brian Lutes/Steve Milley
Can't stand to be alone, too much time on my own.
My mind's become the hunter, I become the prey.
If home is where the heart is, there's a helluva fight ahead.
Take this warning world, get off my back or someone's dead.
Now tell me world, tell me why should I fit in?
Why should I belong - to a world so wrong?
Now tell me why, tell me what makes you so right
Why should I conform, I can't fake it any more.
Hey world, tell me what does it mean
If I don't fit into yours?
Throbbing in my head, burning in my eyes,
I've got a pack of hungry wolves just waiting for me to die.
Spinning, no control, the rock's finally stolen my soul.
This fight with life takes all my might, tonight I just might blow.
My false reality is fading like a dream.
This obsession with depression is forcing me to scream.
A million lying voices, taunting me with choices,
The preachers, teachers, liars and leaches drowning me in noise.

Brighter Days © Brian Lutes/Steve Milley
The harder you push, the tougher it gets.
You climb so high and there’s no turning back.
Bring a smile to an angry face,
Offer a hug and you’re pushed away.
Tension keeps growing, with the seeds we are sowing.
Don’t throw it all away, lets take it day by day.
Give me some love,
Let the sun shine bright in your eyes today.
Put your hand in mine, walk that mile together.
Arm in arm, cheek to cheek,
Our worries far beneath our feet.
Love is all we really need.
Some days I step outside,
One look, I want to run and hide.
Can’t live in fear.
Some days the clouds roll in, seems like the storm will never end.
Brighter days are always near.

Tears For His Prayers © Brian Lutes/Steve Milley
Dramatic sort … of melancholic boy,
Thrived on hurt, attracted pain to his world.
Wore his heart on his sleeve,
With longing in his eyes.
Wrote the kind of poetry,
Where the hero always dies.
I shed tears for his prayers.
I heard the cries, but was never there.
My heart bleeds for his tears.
I sort of knew it would come to this.
To live and die for his sins.
Makes me wonder where I’ve been.
A falling star in the night.
I never wanted to put up a fight ….
… Makes me wonder where I’ve been.
Head full of dreams,
The kind they make movies of.
A caped crusader, that never measured up.
Passion for the light, mysteries of the heart.
Couldn’t save him from the night, it tears me apart.
I shed tears for his prayers.
I heard the cries, but was never there.
My heart bleeds for his tears.
I sort of knew it would come to this.

Excuse Me Mister © Brian Lutes/Steve Milley
Excuse me mister, don’t mind if I sit here,
I promise not to sit too close.
Hey if there is a problem, I can solve ’em.
I’ll just sit on the floor.
It’s no surprise, I realize, don’t explain, I feel no pain…..
Don’t worry, I’m only me.
You don’t… even see me.
You don’t… even know who I am.
You miss… your eyes blind to me.
The woman that I am.
Your sticks and stones may break my bones,
Your words only crush my soul….
But names can’t change who I am.
You don’t… know what’s inside me.
Who are you, to say what I am?
It’s plain to see, what you don’t see in me.
I’m trying hard not to explode.
Your ignorance, far from bliss,
I’ve more class in my big toe.
